Jonelle had wanted to enhance her smile for years, and when she finally visited Dr. Mohr to see what could be done about it, he didn’t sugarcoat things.

Jonelle was born without her upper lateral incisors (the teeth that are supposed to be on either side of the front teeth), and her “eye teeth,” or cuspids, were in their place instead. This kind of issue can develop when a person is missing teeth because over time, the mouth naturally tries to close gaps to create a cohesive bite. To complicate things even more, she still had her baby eye teeth in addition to her permanent ones.

After performing a comprehensive exam, taking a full set of X-rays and digital photos, and completing a smile analysis, Dr. Mohr was able to come up with a plan that would address all of Jonelle’s issues at the same time and would give her a more attractive (and functional) smile. Rather than just reshaping the eye teeth to look more like the missing lateral incisors (which is fast but would not lead to a lasting or lifelike result), Dr. Mohr decided to work with members of his “Dream Team,” specifically his orthodontist and periodontist.

Over the course of her treatment, Jonelle’s baby eye teeth were removed, her adult eye teeth were shifted to the correct spots, and dental implants were used to replace her missing lateral incisors. In the end, this gave Jonelle a wider, more balanced smile while also improving the overall health of her bite. While this approach took more time, the combination of implants and orthodontics would ensure that her teeth would stay nice and straight for decades to come (whereas simply reshaping her existing teeth would have put her at risk of future issues).
